This article has a different taste than usual. It’s more of an English article than programming.
The meaning of asynchronous in English is asynchronous, the antonym of sync (synchronous).
Not many hits. Hmm… Asynchronous seems to have a strong nuance of involving database communication rather than JavaScript communication, and not only that, this word isn’t that common among natives either.
Recently, I realized that for meanings like dynamic, moving, real-time, live is better than asynchronous.
Let’s compare search counts with the following keywords:
asynchronous search javascript,
async search javascript,
live search javascript,
asynchronous search jquery,
async search jquery,
live search jquery

There’s about a 1:100 difference.
Dictionaries aren’t absolute, you know… I use the alc dictionary, but when you search for “非同期” (asynchronous) in alc, “live” never comes up. It’s the same with other dictionaries.
While memorizing English words is important, increasing vocabulary too much might also be something to think about;
